Ayurveda qualifies as a Wellness Program. In an Ayurvedic Lifestyle Informational, a counselor presents basic theories of Ayurveda, India’s ancient “science of life.” Although Ayurveda is commonly understood as India’s traditional medical system, its greatest gift may lie in Ayurvedic teachings about ways to actively create and sustain wellness. The sister science of yoga, Ayurveda can influence the way we eat, sleep, work and exercise.

Employees will learn about fundamental Ayurvedic principles such as “dosha” (individual constitution) and “agni” (digestion). Through discussion, participants get a sense of their own “prakruti,” or constitution. Food combining guidelines and doshic food handouts support employees in making personalized lifestyle adjustments based on their Ayurvedic type.

Not only can knowledge of our Ayurvedic constitution bear impact on what type of foods we eat and how and when we should work and sleep, but we can even refer to recommendations for types of pets based on prakruti!

Most participants find the information fun and applicable to their lives. Many are surprised at the predictability of their physical/mental/emotional patterning based on dosha! Even though the subject matter is vast, the simplicity of the format gives employees information to use far beyond the day of the workshop. The overall well being of the work population can be raised through awareness of Ayurvedic concepts.
