It is cheaper and easier to prevent injuries than to treat them afterwards. Unstressed employees are more productive than chronically ill employees.”
— Al Chan, Founder

Al Chan is a Licensed Physical Therapist. He graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1998. He has been in practice for over 7 years in the Bay area. His integrated approach to wellness which incorporates ergonomics, physical therapy and massage, has earned him clientele such as US Senators, professional athletes, and industry leaders. He is a specialist in spine and hip injuries as well as injury prevention.

“Of the variety of injuries I have treated in my career, the most prevalent and preventable occur in the workplace. The most common injuries we see are in the wrists, hands and lower back. Arm injuries may usually be attributed to incorrect repetitive use, while low back pain is usually caused by improper lifting technique or poor posture. The worst part is that we see the injuries after they occur — when they are the hardest to treat — yet, most patients report that chronic, low-level symptoms existed untreated long before they progressed into injury. Tension Tamers was born of this observation, with the intent to bring healthcare professionals to the frontline.”

“Perhaps more shocking than the preventable work-related injuries is the cost incurred by the patient’s employers. On a single patient, an average of $10,000 is spent on doctor’s visits, medical examinations and medications — all this before the patient even makes it to the physical therapist’s door. As a Physical Therapist, I found that ergonomic recommendations and simple adjustments to a patient’s posture and desk arrangement often eliminated painful motions and occasionally prevented my clients from needing surgery. In cases such as these, ergonomics and health education was the cure; those expensive medical visits and tests may not have been needed. Tension Tamers addresses our modern healthcare spending crisis by entering the workplace directly and reducing the need for costly medical measures through wellness and injury prevention.”
